Rendlesham Forest UFO Incident

Though it occured much more recently, in 1980, the Rendlesham Forest UFO incident is often called “Britain’s Roswell” because of it happening so close to two military installations (RAF Woodbridge and RAF Bentwaters).

The events begain on December 26, 1980, when military officials at USAF Woodbridge saw the conical-shaped UFO hovering over a clearing in the forest. One reported seeing a triangular landing gear under the object. They stated the craft reacted to their movements by shifting away from them, so they followed. The servicemen were found later in a state of confusion, and allegedly were debriefed and forced to sign documents in an attempt to keep them silent.

That same night a resident of Sudbourne, about 6 miles from the forest, also claimed to have witnessed the conical UFO.

The next morning the airmen returned to the forest where they supposedly found a triangular pattern of indentations in the ground, each giving off radiation.

That night, the 27th, civilians state the lights returned to the forest. Some insist that on this evening the USAF videotaped the UFO in the forest. No such tape has been released.

The Sci-Fi Channel acquired an audio tape created by Lt. Colonel Halt (of the USAF) during his investigation of the Rendlesham UFO incident. A transcript of that tape can be found here.

Their descriptions of the UFO include: “OK, we’re looking at the thing, we’re probably about two to three hundred yards away. It looks like an eye winking at you. Still moving from side to side. And when you put the Starscope on it, it’s like a hollow center, a dark center, it’s like a pupil of an eye looking at you, winking. And the flash is so bright to the Starscope that it almost burns your eye”, “We see strange strobe-like flashes to the… rather sporadic, but there’s definitely something there. Some kind of phenomenon”, “At about ten degrees, horizon, directly north, we’ve got two strange objects, half moon shape, dancing about, with colored lights on ‘em. At, eh, guess to be about five to ten miles out, maybe less. The half moons have now turned into full circles as though there was an eclipse or something there for a minute or two”, “Now we’re observing what appears to be a beam coming down to the ground…This is unreal.“
